A new set of faces are coming to Hope Valley! HOPE VALLEY: 1874, a WHEN CALLS THE HEART prequel series, is officially in the works at Hallmark+.
“HOPE VALLEY: 1874 gives us a wonderful opportunity to further explore the universe of WHEN CALLS THE HEART and build a deeper world around this show for our devoted fans, who have helped make it one of the most successful and enduring series on television today,” Michelle Vicary, Hallmark’s head of programming, said in a statement.
She continued, “We’re excited for the Hearties to join us as we tell this rich origin story filled with the kind of heart, community and hope they know and love.”
HOPE VALLEY: 1874 is set to begin production next week on an eight-episode season. The series will be led by ONE TREE HILL’s Bethany Joy Lenz. She plays Rebecca Clarke, who travels from Chicago to the Canadian frontier with her young daughter.

“When her wagon breaks down, she has no choice but to accept help from local rancher and confirmed bachelor, Tom Moore,” a press release from the network reads. “Despite Rebecca’s best intentions to remain unattached, the future she dreams of for her and her daughter, along with the people she meets in this fledgling town – including the guarded Tom and tenacious pioneer woman Hattie Quinn – ultimately compel her to put down roots and make a fresh start.”
HOPE VALLEY: 1874 will also portray “the adventurous ranchers, gold prospectors and early pioneers who worked together to navigate and embrace the changes of a new era and ultimately build a small, close-knit community in the rugged and hopeful pioneer era.”
Lenz will be joined by Benjamin Ayres, Jill Hennessy, Roan Curtis and Lachlan Quarmby.
“Dream come true this week ✨” Lenz wrote on Instagram. “And what a cast! @jillhennessyofficial @benjaminayres @roancurtis @lachdq @chelseaxhobbs and few more surprises up @hallmarkplus sleeve. Giddyup!”
Hennessy posted, “So excited to play in this world with some fabulous folks!!!” while Quarmby joked, “Found my niche, characters from the 1800’s. See y’all next year,” referring to his role in Hallmark’s PROVIDENCE FALLS.
HOPE VALLEY: 1874 is the second spin-off spawned by the massively popular WCTH. WHEN HOPE CALLS debuted in 2019, with its third season currently in production.
HOPE VALLEY: 1874 will premiere in March of 2026. We can’t wait!
