TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM 2 is coming to audiences just a little earlier than originally anticipated as its release date has been moved up from mid-September 2027 to mid-August.

“Working with Paramount and having the opportunity to reinvent the iconic TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES characters has been a dream come true,” director Jeff Rowe said after a multi-year first look deal with Paramount was announced, including a sequel to MUTANT MAYHEM. “I’m grateful to Ramsey and the entire team for this opportunity. It’s also my understanding that this deal will pay me in money instead of pizza, and I think that’s gonna be a real game-changer.”

The sequel to 2023’s summer hit is one of many projects Paramount and Nickelodeon have embarked upon to bring the Ninja Turtles to a new generation. The duo released a video game with the new art style in 2024 and has plans to create a show aimed at younger children.

“It’s exciting to launch our first counsel game set in the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM universe, especially as the franchise only continues to grow,” Paramount’s games and emerging media SVP Doug Rosen said. “The vibrancy of this new film’s animation lends itself perfectly to video games, and we can’t wait for everyone to play it.”

While little is yet known about MUTANT MAYHEM 2, some are speculating that the Ninja Turtles will face off against Shredder now that audiences have become reacquainted with the series.

“Shredder is a big character when he’s on screen. He demands a lot of presence, and he takes up so much space in the story,” Rowe told The Hollywood Reporter after the success of the first movie. “So it was too much space in a movie where we’re also trying to reintroduce a new generation of Turtles and get audiences on board with this iteration.” And having them meet not the ultimate villain, but a villain that’s more on their level, it really made a lot of story pieces come together. It helped us make the film that we ended up making.”

Whether the sequel features Shredder or not, it is more important that it sticks to the spirit of the first movie and focus on a strong moral worldview as the characters embark on their fun adventures. A portion of Moviguide®’s review of the first movie reads:

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM tells a rousing, funny story, with a unique animated look. The characters sometimes talk over one another too much, however. MUTANT MAYHEM has a strong morally uplifting worldview. The stepfather of the four turtles has a strong fatherly concern for them and their wellbeing. The movie also promotes doing the right thing. MUTANT MAYHEM has some intense violence, scary creatures and foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

With the change in schedule, audiences will be able to enjoy TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM 2 in theaters starting on Aug. 13, 2027.
