Iowa Hawkeyes basketball star Cam Manyawu leans on one Bible verse to help him trust God more.

“It’s always stuck with me, because, you know, even though you’re going through something, it’s always trusting the Lord, that He has your back,” the center said on an episode of “The Walk” podcast, pointing to Proverbs 3:5-6.

The verses read, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

“And if you’re going through something, I mean, that’s just the plan for you right now, to go through, and you’ll come out better on the other side,” Manyawu continued.

The athlete knows that God will bring him through whatever comes his way.

“Especially with basketball, but even with life, and I always just tell myself, like, God[‘s] got me. I’m okay,” Manyawu, who has “Trust in God” written in his Instagram bio, said. “Like, whatever I’m going through, I’ll make it out of it. You know, sometimes when I’m struggling, it’s like, man, like, I’m so frustrated, but then it’s just like God has me. When it’s my time to come out of this, like he has me. I just got to keep working, keep the right mindset, and I’ll be fine.”

Before Manyawu landed in Iowa, he began his college career at the University of Wyoming, where he “Spent freshman season at Wyoming, playing in 31 games where he averaged 7.3 points and 6.6 rebounds… collected seven double-doubles, including a 20-point, 11-rebound game against South Dakota Mines,” the Hawkeyes said on Manyawu’s player page.

After his freshman campaign, Manyawu transferred to Drake University and once again “averaged 7.1 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds as a sophomore…started all 35 games and led the team with a 57.8 field goal percentage…[and] had a team-high 24 blocks and finished with 45 steals.”

Now in his junior season, the athlete has started in all nineteen games for the Hawkwyes and has averaged “7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.” The center is “shooting 64 percent from the floor” and “has been in double digits seven times this season.”

Even with all of the stats Manyawu has produced this season, his walk with Christ sets him apart. He knows that no matter what he may face in life, he can “trust in the Lord” because God won’t leave him.
