Atlanta Falcons running back Nathan Carter has one goal in life: to “preach the Word” of God.

Carter wrote in a post on Instagram, “Before Paul was about to be martyred for his faith, he wrote his last letter to his protégé, Timothy, commanding him to ‘Preach the Word’ (2 Timothy 4:2). Alongside this, Paul warned of what Timothy would face. These words perfectly describe the world today.”

Carter included the verses 2 Timothy 4:3-4, which read, “For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.”

“We live in a culture where sound doctrine is no longer valued,” Carter wrote. “People don’t want the true Gospel; they crave messages that inflate their egos and justify personal agendas. Many churches have pastors more concerned with public image than truth. People attend church with narcissistic expectations, wanting to be told how “good” they are and assuming that the Bible is solely about them.

“The false prosperity gospel teaches God exists to make us rich, healthy, and successful, and with enough faith, we can ‘name and claim’ or ‘decree and declare’ blessings as if He owes us,” he continued. “Meanwhile, Christians are being persecuted and killed, yet some still think wealth and comfort are God’s ultimate promise. Seriously? We no longer call sin what it is: evil. Instead, we redefine evil as good and good as evil. Objective truth is replaced with personal opinion, and everyone believes their own version of reality is correct.”

“Many profess Christ with their lips but bear no fruit,” Carter added. “They live, speak, and indulge like the world, yet expect to reflect Christ’s character. John 3:16 describes God’s love, yet many ignore Luke 9:23, which calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Jesus daily.”

Carter concluded the post by encouraging his followers to tell people the truth, which is the Gospel.

“Preaching the truth is now labeled unloving or offensive. Telling someone they are sinners in need of a Savior, that Jesus died for them, is deemed harsh, but is silence truly loving when eternity is at stake?” he wrote. “We must return to preaching the true Word of God. Uphold the true Gospel. Resist the false doctrines of the world. Stand firm and speak the truth in love. The eternity of friends, family, and humanity depends on it.”

In a world that is full of false hope, Carter has focused on telling as many people the Gospel as he possibly can because he knows their eternity depends on it.
