After a nail-biting finish to the Cincinnati and Nebraska college football game, players and coaches came to together to glorify God with a post-game prayer.
“I pray that every guy here would understand the reality of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. We’re not here just for show. We’re here, Lord, to give you honor and glory,” Nebraska assistant coach Ron Brown could be heard praying with a circle of players after the game. “So, God, I ask that you would restore these guys from Cincinnati as well as Nebraska. Get us ready for our next game and that we would honor you with every day at practice and every day in school, Lord, and with the media and everything else. We give you praise for today. Thank you for this game. It’s in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”

This show of faith came after an extremely close game, which saw the Cornhuskers hold on to its tight lead after Nebraska defensive back Malcom Hartzog Jr. intercepted a pass to the end zone with 34 seconds left to save his team’s 20-17 lead.
Among the key players throughout the game was Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola who committed to the school after feeling pressure on his heart from the Lord to do so.
“It didn’t feel real at the time, if I’m being honest,” Raiola said in an interview with 247 Sports in December 2023. “To be able to sit there and tell [Rhule] I want to be part of this and I believe in what he’s doing — it got emotional with my mom, dad, brother, my uncle was in there as well. You can tell it’s the perfect fit. It happened at the right time, and God’s time is perfect.”
“I’ll tell you what changed in his heart,” his father, Dominic, added. “He knew he had a different kind of talent. He told us: ‘God has bigger plans for me than just going to Georgia and being the next five-star and being in line to win the national title. God has different plans for me.’ And those plans were to go to Nebraska and do something hard.”
Raiola’s trust in the Lord along with the rest of the faith on his team comes as Christianity spreads like wildfire across the college football world. Last year’s National Championship team from The Ohio State, for example, was full of Christians who used their platform to spread the gospel, rather than glorify themselves.
It is amazing how the Lord is moving in these young players who, in turn, inspire the next generation to anchor themselves in Christ.
