What Makes a Godly Marriage? DUCK DYNASTY Stars Share Their Advice

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sadie Robertson Huff recently sat down with some special men in her life — her uncle Si, her father Willie and her uncle Al — to discuss what makes a godly marriage.

Al shared that it’s important for you and your spouse to “be in the same lane” and follow God together. He shared that once that happened in his own relationship, his marriage as a whole improved.

“When you both finally get in the same lane and you’re both finally going for the same goals…just to be there and help each other in that journey. I mean Lisa’s amazing, she does so much to encourage me just by the way she is, and a lot of things I’m not good at she is, and so we do that together,” he said of his wife.

Uncle Si chimed in, commenting on the transformation he saw in Al’s marriage. “When God moved in…the marriage got right and then it wasn’t pulled in two directions,” he said.

“You’re going to have to put a lot of work involved in this,” Si added of what it takes to have a successful marriage. “There’re a lot of things that you’re going to have to overlook and just accept, you know? I guess the best way to say [it is] you got to grow together.”

Sadie added how choosing to marry someone isn’t some big supernatural thing; rather, it’s making wise choices based on how you aligned.

“It’s not this miraculous, this mysterious thing. Like ‘are you the one?’ ‘Where’s the sign from heaven?’  It’s more profound than that; it’s more practical than that. It’s like, do you align [with] the things that are important in life? Is your faith at the center? How does their family do things?…Do you see yourself going in the same direction? It’s more practical and profound,” she explained.

The Bible gives us some indication of who we should marry. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” It is important to choose someone who, as Al said, is in the same lane as us and working towards the same life goals — mainly, pursuing God.

Sadie just celebrated five years of marriage to her husband Christian Huff.

“Not a day goes by that I’m not grateful to be your wife!! I continue to fall more and more in love with you each year as our family and our hearts grow,” she wrote on Instagram. “I remember thinking when we got married, ‘I can’t believe that one day I’ll love you even more than I do right now!’ Well, here we are 5 years later, and I do! I do love you more now! I can’t believe that in 15, 25, 35 years I’ll love you even more – but I will!”
