Ohio State Tight End Is More Than a Football Player: ‘Disciple’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Ohio State tight end Gee Scott Jr. joined Sports Spectrum’s “What’s Up” podcast to discuss the most important thing in his life, and it isn’t football.
“Well, I would say one of the things just because it’s out of my control, it’s what I do every single day, I’m obviously big on football right now, being in the thick of the season. It’s hard to find much to do outside of that it’s taking up a lot of my time,” Scott began.
“But the number one thing in my life — and the biggest thing in my life — is my faith,” he declared. “That is truly what I’m big on, and so anytime that I get away outside of here, it usually somewhat revolves around intimacy with Christ and trying to get to know Him more. How can I serve Him better and, you know, be a better disciple, honestly.”

He recently attended a Josiah Queen and Antoine Bradford concert, both rising stars in the Christian music world.
“They invited us to come and listen to them do a performance,” Scott said. “They messaged me and Emeka [Egbuka], and they were like, ‘Hey. We’d love to have you guys come backstage and check us out.’ I guess they’re fans of us, too, of our play, and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s super cool because I’m a big fan of you guys.'”

“So, it just kind of worked like we were able to come and hang out with them,” he continued. “We took pictures. They did an amazing job. Spontaneously, they actually asked us to come out and like share a word with everybody. It’s pretty crazy. It doesn’t just happen when you’re backstage and the performers are like, ‘Hey. Why don’t you just like come out and speak?’ There were like a couple thousand people there, too. It wasn’t just like, you know, 20 people, so it was it was super cool.”

Scott boldly declares his faith on his social media. His Instagram bio reads, “I know who I am because I know Whose I am” and features John 13:7 and Psalms 3:6.
His faith has inspired revival on his team. Over the summer, he baptized seven of his teammates.
“I just want to make this aware so everyone in Columbus, the community knows in Columbus, what’s going on,” Scott told One Church. “Something’s going on on this football team. Christ is working on this football team.”
