‘Go Back To The Basics’: Pastor Greg Laurie Shares How To Kick Start A Personal Revival

By Movieguide® Contributor

In a recent conversation with Kirk Cameron, Greg Laurie shared his thoughts on personal revival and how best to spread the Gospel.

Cameron started by asking Laurie how someone knows if they’re in need of a personal revival.

Laurie replied, “I would say [when] we find ourselves in a sort of spiritual slump, and we may not even be aware of it, but we find compromises are being made in our life. We’re not reading the word of God, we’re not praying, we never share our faith, we can’t remember the last time we’ve told someone about Jesus.”

He then went on to share the importance of sharing our faith with others, saying that a “new believer energizes you as an older Christian.”

“Sometimes it’s a crisis that gets our attention,” Laurie continued. He shared his own personal crisis — when his 33 year-old son Christopher passed away.

“It rocked our world,” he admitted. “What it caused me to do was just turn to God because if God didn’t come through for me, I would have given up preaching.”

For anyone wondering how to kickstart their own personal revival, Laurie had some tips.

“Go back to the basics,” he explained. “There are disciplines in your life [you] must practice.”

Laurie compared praying and attending church to working out — even if you have to force yourself to do these activities, you’ll feel better after you’re done them.

“If we find ourselves in that place [of needing a revival]…we have to take practical steps to get out of that place and get back to that first love and that close relationship with Jesus Christ,” Laurie instructed.

Laurie is getting ready to bring the story of another revival to the big screen next month. Movieguide® previously reported on JESUS REVOLUTION:

Jonathan Roumie of THE CHOSEN recently updated fans on his upcoming movie, JESUS REVOLUTION, with the first behind-the-scenes look and interviews with the other cast members.

“You might have seen this by now but for those who missed it, I’m stoked to share the first-ever behind-the-scenes look at JESUS REVOLUTION, in theaters everywhere February 2023,” Roumie wrote. “Experience the heart of our story: how a new counterculture crusade—a Jesus Movement—changed the course of history.”

The movie’s stars shared their thoughts on the movie and what they want audiences to take away from JESUS REVOLUTION.

“Audiences are going to get a strong message of love and hope,” Devon Franklin shared, while Kelsey Grammer said, “I hope people feel tearful and joyful, all at the same time, and maybe inspired to rediscover their own faith.”

“It’s been seven years to the screen for this movie and every other movie we made along the way…it’s all been leading to this,” Jon Erwin, the writer and co-director of JESUS REVOLUTION explained.

Movieguide® previously reported on the production of JESUS REVOLUTION:

THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie, Kelsey Grammer, Joel Courtney and Anna Grace Barlow are set to star in JESUS REVOLUTION, a movie by Kingdom Story Company. The movie follows Greg Laurie’s book, Jesus Revolution, about “the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970’s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies in Southern California.”

THE KISSING BOOTH’s Courtney will portray Laurie with Barlow as his wife, Cathe. Grammer will replace Jim Gaffigan as Chuck Smith, and Movieguide® Grace Prize® Winner Roumie will take on the role of Lonnie Frisbee.

Movieguide® Award winners Jon Erwin and John Gunn will write the script, with Gunn directing.

“Pray for the cast and crew, that they will either come closer to Jesus or some might even meet him for the first time!” Laurie wrote on Instagram. “Our prayer is that this film will prompt young people (And all people for that matter) to say, ‘Do it again, Lord!’. It’s been said, ‘The fame of revival spreads the FLAME of revival.’”

“The Jesus Movement was the last great American spiritual awakening,” he added. “Some historians have said it was the greatest revival of all time. Let’s pray for another. I also appreciate prayers as this film goes into production.”
