Immoral PRAISE PETEY Canceled After One Season

By Movieguide® Contributor

The immoral adult cartoon PRAISE PETEY has been canceled following the release of its first season on Freeform and Hulu.

“Sad to say PRAISE PETEY will not be renewed at Freeform,” show creator Anna Drezen shared on Instagram. “I cannot believe we got to make this show. Best crew, best cast, top to bottom dream of my life to make something this funny and unwell that went on actual television.”

PRAISE PETEY depicted the life of a New York City girl – Petey – who moves to a small town following the death of her father to take over his cult. The trailer finds Petey in awe of her new life after watching a ritualistic sacrifice in which a person is murdered and their blood is drunk.

The first season followed Petey as she modernized the cult, outlawing human sacrifices and introducing new ideas such as homosexuality and feminism.

The show has now been canceled after just one season on air.

Drezen blamed the show’s cancelation on COVID-19 and the strikes, saying, “I have heard that making a non-IP show during Covid that premiers during a double strike in the dead of summer was not ideal for viewership.”

This, however, disregards the fact that producing immoral content alienates viewers, who are currently seeking moral and uplifting content.

Furthermore, this type of content will not find backdoor success with teens, who are also seeking uplifting and moral content.

The cancelation of PRAISE PETEY provides Hollywood with more proof that audiences will not consume immoral content. With a chance to reset their focus following the strikes, studios will hopefully center their efforts on creating content that people actually want, which is moral and uplifting.

Movieguide® previously reported:

PRAISE PETEY, a new, disturbing animated Disney series, recently appeared on Freeform and Hulu and left many outraged over its immoral themes.

Natural News reports that PRAISE PETEY is “an ‘adult animated comedy,’ [that] depicts a girl having to move from the big city to ‘a place called New Utopia’ where she is charged with taking care of her deceased father’s ritualistic murder cult.”

The official trailer follows Petey as she becomes the cult’s leader.

“It’s morning again,” she says in the trailer. “The sun is shining, the goats are screaming and I’m still here despite the fact that last night I witnessed someone get ritualistically murdered by my dad’s cult that I just inherited.”

The trailer then shifts to a memory of men in red cloaks chanting, stabbing a man and drinking his blood.
