Longhorns QB Continues to ‘Lean on Jesus’ Ahead of SEC Championship
By Movieguide® Contributor
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is used to a little adversity.
After an early pick in the Longhorns’ game against Texas A&M, Ewers knew he needed to lean on his faith if he wanted to lead his team to victory.
“Every time we cover you, it seems like your resilience always stands out. How were you processing an early pick and then coming back with a quick touchdown after that?” the media asked after the game.
“I think it’s just the veteran in all of us, you know. I think we played a lot of ball,” Ewers responded. “We understand adversity is going to strike, and at the end of the day, it’s how you come back and it’s how you respond. It’s 10% what happens to you and 90% of how you react so, you know, I just lean on Jesus, and He just continues to put me through adverse times.”

According to 247 Sports, “While dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in the second quarter of the Kentucky game, Ewers completed nine of his first 12 attempts for 96 yards and a touchdown. The scoring toss, which helped the Longhorns extend the lead to 14-0 with 8:25 remaining in the second quarter, was a 7-yard back-shoulder throw to running back Jaydon Blue.”
“Texas allowed just 248 total yards while the Aggies’ lone touchdown was a pick-six in the second half. Texas A&M nearly found the end zone again in the fourth quarter, but the Longhorns forced a turnover on downs with a goal-line stand,” Bleacher Report wrote.
“The 17-for-28, 218-yard performance in the victory allowed Ewers to do his part to lift Texas (11-1, 7-1 SEC) into the SEC Championship Game against No. 7 Georgia next Saturday (3 p.m., ABC),” 247 Sports added. “He’ll go into the team’s second meeting with the Bulldogs in 2024, ranking No. 3 in career touchdown passes and fourth in career passing yards (7,963) for the Longhorns.”
