Man Comes to Christ After Seeing HACKSAW RIDGE
By Jessilyn Lancaster, Managing Editor
An Iranian man came to Christ after seeing the Lord’s Prayer in a frame in HACKSAW RIDGE.
Lee Grady, director of the Mordecai Project, shared the testimony on social media.
“A MIRACLE IN THE WIND,” Grady posted to Facebook. “My new friend ‘Bahram’ is an Iranian living in Australia. Just a few years ago, while in Iran, he started seeking God and asking spiritual questions. In 2016, he saw the film ‘Hacksaw Ridge,’ in which a framed copy of the Lord’s prayer is shown during a key scene. Bahram had never heard of the prayer. He looked it up on the internet out of curiosity. A few days later, two random pages of the Bible ended up on his doorstep, blown by the wind. The pages included Luke 11, where the Lord’s prayer appears. Bahram saw this as a sign from God, and he gave his life to Christ. To this day he keeps those pages in his Farsi Bible, as a reminder that Jesus came looking for him!”
HACKSAW RIDGE is directed by Mel Gibson and stars Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss. Doss is a devout Christian pacifist who refused to fire a shot during World War II.
According to the Movieguide® review:
The subject of non-violence is addressed incredibly tastefully. While many may disagree with Desmond’s interpretation of biblical passages on violence, Desmond doesn’t pass judgment on those willing to take a life in the context of war. He simply wants to preserve his own convictions and stay true to what he believes God wants him to do. Desmond also directly acknowledges his own sin, including the attempted murder of his father in his own heart through hate. At the court martial hearing, Desmond tells his wife to tell his father that he loves him.
Ultimately, HACKSAW RIDGE isn’t a story about pacifism. It’s a story about the importance of not compromising one’s values, faith and commitment to God and about standing firm when others try to force you to compromise. Eventually, Desmond’s courage and heroic commitment to Jesus Christ changes the hearts and minds of his fellow soldiers and commanders and attests to the importance of prayer, faith and standing on convictions.
