PRINCESS SWITCH 3: What You Need to Know About the New Sequel
By Movieguide® Staff
Netflix recently announced the third installment in the beloved modern-day fairytale, THE PRINCESS SWITCH. Joining Vanessa Hudgens and Vanessa Hudgens will be Will Kemp, Amanda Donohoe, and Remy Hii. Netflix also confirmed Sam Palladio, Nick Sagar, Florence Hall, Ricky Norwood, Suanne Braun, Mark Fleischmann, and Robin Soans.
According to Deadline, the movie’s plot reads: “A priceless relic is stolen, Queen Margaret and Princess Stacy enlist the help of Margaret’s audacious look-alike cousin Fiona again who teams with a dashing, mysterious man from her past to retrieve it, rekindling the sparks of a tantalizing Christmas romance and resulting in a very unexpected switch. In Part 3, which is already shot, Kemp plays Hunter Cunard, a suave and sophisticated international hotelier, with a particular interest in acquiring valuable antiques and rare artifacts.”
Movieguide® reviewed the past two movies in THE PRINCESS SWITCH ensemble:
THE PRINCESS SWITCH is a family movie available on the Netflix streaming service. A young woman named Stacy travels all the way from Chicago to Belgravia for a baking contest and meets a Duchess who looks exactly like her. The two women agree to switch places. Stacy now has to fool Margaret’s fiancé. However, when the two develop real feelings for each other, Stacy wonders if she has put herself in a heartbreaking situation. Meanwhile, Margaret has to fool Stacy’s baking partner, Kevin, another handsome young man.
THE PRINCESS SWITCH is a fun, cute and clean movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family. MOVEIGUIDE® is happy to see a movie on Netflix without questionable content and no cursing, but with a strong moral theme stressing generosity, taking care of the needy, and love. Though clearly not a big budget, the movie is well done. As usual, Vanessa Hudgens, who plays both Stacy and Margaret, has a delightful twinkle in her eye. THE PRINCESS SWITCH is a Hallmark style Christmas movie that viewers can easily access with a Netflix account.
The second movie is equally charming and family-friendly:
In THE PRINCESS SWITCH: SWITCHED AGAIN, Duchess Margaret of Montenaro is scheduled to be crowned Queen on Christmas Day. Margaret’s lookalike, Princess Stacy of Belgravia, urges her friend, Kevin, to attend the coronation ceremony and try to work things out with Margaret, although they broke up six months ago. However, once in Montenaro, it proves difficult for Kevin and Margaret to get together. So, Stacy proposes another brief switch so her friends can have some time alone. Margaret’s snarky, conniving cousin, Fiona, throws a big monkey wrench into that plan.
THE PRINCESS SWITCH: SWITCHED AGAIN takes time to get started. The comedy and jeopardy kick in when Stacy and Margaret switch places and when Margaret’s greedy cousin mistakenly kidnaps Stacy thinking she’s Margaret. Moreover, the second half contains overt Christian, biblical references, including: a choir sings about Jesus Christ the Savior, and references to Jesus Christ’s teaching on marriage in Matthew 19 and to King Solomon’s coronation in the Hebrew Scriptures. THE PRINCESS SWITCH: SWITCHED AGAIN is an excellent, entertaining representation of Christian, biblical values for families during the Christmas season.
Movieguide® is hopeful that the third installment will have similar Christian and uplifting content that the whole family can enjoy. The movie is expected to drop this holiday season.
