Reba McEntire is coming back to the small screen with a new sitcom for NBC.
The country singer will star as a woman who “inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had,” per Variety.
Deadline reported, “This is the first official pilot order for the 2024 broadcast pilot season, which was impacted by the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.”
The show — still untitled — will see McEntire team up with Kevin Abbott, writer and executive producer, and Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis and Julie Abbott as executive producers. The group previously worked on McEntire’s hit show REBA.
REBA premiered in 2001 and ran for six seasons, receiving Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
McEntire has recently made her return to acting with roles in YOUNG SHELDON, BIG SKY and THE HAMMER and has plans for bigger roles in the future.
“I would love to be in a Marvel movie,” she told Billboard. “I’m going to leave it open. I could play a hero or the villain, but I think I’d have more fun being the villain.”
There are also still hopes for a REBA reboot. Movieguide® previously reported:
Could we be getting a REBA reboot? Star Reba McEntire says it’s a possibility!
“We’ve really been trying hard to do a reboot of the Reba show,” the country star revealed. “I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years.”
McEntire continued, “It was fun, the cast, the crew, everybody we got to work with and play with, they were wonderful people. We wanted to get back together like a reunion and have fun, so hopefully that will happen one day.”
Other REBA stars are also ready to reunite.
Co-star JoAnna Garcia Swisher, said, “Are you kidding me? We’d love to do [a reboot]!”
