WHEN CALLS THE HEART Stars Team Up Again for Christmas Romcom

The holidays are a time to bring families together…and old costars. Hearties will rejoice with this reunion of WCTH stars Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing in Hallmark’s movie SANTA TELL ME.

“It’s actually the best one of these Christmas movies I’ve ever read and ever been a part of. I’ll just say that unequivocally right now,” Lissing said, who didn’t know initially Krakow was involved with the project as well.

“So the first day on set for us was like a reunion, really. It was kind of like coming back to something that was familiar but new,” he told ET.

Lissing played Jack Thornton, husband to Elizabeth, played by Krakow, up until his departure from WCTH in 2018, after Thornton dies in battle.

“We’re both working and focused on our jobs and our families, so we spent a lot of time together, concentrated time together, in those first four and a half five years of WHEN CALLS THE HEART,” Krakow said. “[T]his was such a gift to be able to reunite and spend some quality time together over three weeks time while we filmed this movie.”

A synopsis of SANTA TELL ME reads:

When Olivia [Krakow], a successful interior designer, finds an old letter from Santa promising she’ll meet the love of her life by Christmas Eve—and that his name will be Nick—she’s stunned to meet not one, but three guys named Nick.

As she navigates these holiday romances, Olivia also finds herself drawn to her charming co-worker, Chris [Lissing], throwing her magical Christmas quest into question. With the clock ticking toward Christmas Eve, Olivia embarks on a heartwarming and humorous journey to uncover her true soulmate.

“Well, it’s not just a linear story of girl meets guy in this case, and maybe they start as oil and water and find themselves in a love story at the end of the movie,” Krakow said. “This is like a real journey for Olivia, of trying to figure out who her soulmate is, on a deadline too. I mean, Santa Claus has given her the deadline to pick her favorite Nick.”

Meanwhile, fans of WCTH will get to return to Hope Valley on Jan. 5 for Season 12 as the romance between Elizabeth Thornton and Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) grows.

“It’s been a great season. It’s been a true creative roller coaster. This season is just full of highs and lows, and there’s a lot of fun comedy,” Krakow revealed. “There’s a lot of, like, very emotional, dramatic moments, and a lot of our romance, it’s…a very full season.”

While Lissing said that the show has moved on since his exit, Krakow counters that Thornton is still “woven into the fabric of” the show.

“Jack Thornton will always be a special character to our viewers, and it’s one that I think the writers have done a really good job of keeping alive…through seeing Elizabeth parent Little Jack,” the Pennsylvania native said. “Jack Thornton’s name is still on the schoolhouse; it’s the Jack Thornton school. We speak of him all the time. So that character hasn’t fully left the show.”

As far as future projects with Hallmark and Krakow, Lissing said that he would not count that out.

“[C]oming back into that family, especially for this project, you know, is really special for me. So I hope that we can build that relationship,” he said

“We’re both doing a whole bunch of different things, but if we can come together every so often and do something, I think the fans would love it. I think it would be good for the network. I think it would be good for us. So we’ll see,” Lissing continued.
