Why YouTube Creators Are Using AI
By Movieguide® Contributor
YouTube recently announced new AI-powered features, but many creators are already using AI to help them streamline their content creation process.
“YouTube is hoping to improve creator experience with the help of AI,” DailyMotion said. “The video-sharing giant is home to more than 60 million creators across the world and has now detailed, after conducting a survey, just how artificial intelligence will aid their usership going forward. From entertainment to news to music to learning, the move from linear to streaming has signaled a massive shift in the way content is consumed. With the emergence of generative AI, we are now at another inflection point in how content is created.”
One way YouTube’s AI technology will be available to creators is through Dream Screen.
“By integrating Veo into Dream Screen, YouTube creators will soon be able to generate exciting backgrounds for their Shorts. Early next year, we’re also making it possible to generate 6 second standalone video clips,” Google Deepmind reported.
But there’s more. “GenAI creativity isn’t coming, it’s already here,” YouTube proclaimed in a blog post.
“Just as they led the way with streaming, creators are at the forefront of GenAI creation, with the low barrier to entry allowing them to experiment in their creation process. In our global survey, Radius found that a remarkable 92% of creators are already using GenAI tools, with 74% of respondents saying they know a great deal or a fair amount about the technology,” YouTube added.
“The post went on to note that GenAI has ultimately saved a lot of time for a chunk of their users because their tools have the ability to ‘simplify tasks’ such as uploading videos,” DailyMotion reported.
“Why the shift?” YouTube asked. “One reason is simple: time. Time is one of a creator’s most valuable resources, and GenAI tools have the capability to simplify tasks that once took hours or even days. Our research indicates that creators are becoming aware of this potential workflow accelerator — according to the global survey conducted by Radius, 29% of creators say that one of their top three reasons for using GenAI to save time.”
Movieguide® recently reported on some of YouTube’s other new AI features:
In addition to this, YouTube is updating its “Inspiration Tab” in YouTube Studio.
Using generative AI, it “will help curate suggestions including video ideas, titles, thumbnails and outlines ‘to match your style,’” Variety reported.
YouTube’s upgraded Communities hub feature will also rely on AI. “AI-enhanced comment reply suggestions” will enable creators to “stay responsive even as their audiences grow.”
“This is not about replacing ideas. This is about giving you the tools to get you there faster,” said Sarah Ali, senior director of product at YouTube.
“YouTube also is planning to expand its automatic dubbing tool, which can generate translated audio tracks for videos in different languages,” Variety noted. “That will expand the number of languages it supports, including adding Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian.”
Other new additions to the platform include “Hype,” which will help smaller creators reach bigger audiences, and a new shopping feature that allows users to shop affiliate links from their favorite creators.
