More Detail:

MEDAL OF HONOR’s third episode is the story of Edward Carter, a black solider in World War II. In 1945, American troops were pushing into the German homeland. Edward Carter’s unit was ambushed by German troops. Carter charged the German position and eliminated it single-handedly. Despite numerous injuries, Carter killed all but two of the German troops and managed to interrogate the captured two in German while limping back to the American position. No black soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor during World War II. However, that decision was rectified in 1997 when President Bill Clinton awarded the Medal of Honor to seven black soldiers, including Carter.

This episode of MEDAL OF HONOR is a powerful story of bravery. The narration and interviews provide audiences with a careful description of the U.S. Military during WWII. The writing of the dramatized sections feels a little hokey compared to other episodes, but the performances are strong. Some complicated worldview issues occur here, as this episode seems like it glorifies combat, rather than service. Some violent scenes make this episode inappropriate for younger children.
