More Detail:

MEDAL OF HONOR’s first episode tells the story of Sylvester Antolak, a U.S. Army Sgt. and Medal of Honor recipient from World War II. Antolak was shot multiple times while trying to distract the enemy so his unit could escape an ambush. He crossed 200 yards of open field and broke up the German trench. Having successfully saved his men, Antolak and his unit were ambushed AGAIN by an arriving German unit. Despite his multiple bullet wounds, Antolak charges this second unit, which allows his men to gain the upper hand, but costs him his life.

MEDAL OF HONOR is part documentary, and part dramatization. Interviews with military experts, veterans, and family are juxtaposed with well-produced dramatizations of the recipients’ final acts of bravery. This first episode involves experts who describe how, in the field, a leader’s bravery can motivate even exhausted men to do incredible things. The actors who play Antolak (Joseph Cross) and his unit take on that psychology, emotionally portraying a weary group of Americans who take unexpected fire. Some realistic war violence makes this episode inappropriate for younger children.
