More Detail:

Episode 7 of MEDAL OF HONOR is the story of the Vietnam War, and another American hero, Chief Master Sergeant Richard L. Etchberger. During the war, the United States needed civilians to run a technical site near Laos. Several soldiers, including Etchberger, secretly resigned from the Army to serve as non-commissioned officers. While serving, their site was attack by North Vietnamese soldiers. Etchberger gave his life in helping his fellow soldiers escape the attack. Because the mission was secret, Etchberger was not awarded the Medal of Honor until 2010.

This episode of MEDAL OF HONOR really relies on the interview portion over the dramatizations. While the acting and writing of the drama portion continue to be strong, the more recent story of Etchberger’s Medal of Honor award is the most compelling piece. The after-episode extra footage is interesting in Etchberger’s story. Self-sacrifice is a strong theme, and provides a powerful moral worldview. Happily, it contains some positive references to Christian faith. As in other episodes, there is some foul language and realistic war violence, so the episode’s unsuitable for young children.
