DEF JAM’S HOW TO BE A PLAYER opens with the hero, Dray Jackson, dreaming that his steady girlfriend, Lisa, has unexpectedly discovered a trail of women’s clothes extending from his front door to his bedroom, where she finds him in bed with his latest conquest. Relieved that he was only dreaming, he proceeds to pick up his wannabe womanizer friends in his red 1963 T-Bird. He wants to train them in how to pick up women. Meanwhile, Dray’s college student sister, Jenny wants to expose her brother’s lifestyle of secrets and lies to his many girlfriends. The film concludes as Jennie invites all Dray’s girlfriends to a party, at which she hopes he will repent and reform himself.

Inappropriately promoted as “the funniest movie of the summer,” DEF JAM’S HOW TO BE A PLAYER does little more than to foster inter-gender misunderstanding and hostility as it depicts a selfish philanderer pursuing his lustful conquests under the guise of a comedy. Moral Americans will have scant sympathy for a womanizer who trains others to imitate his degraded lifestyle of sexual exploitation and opportunism. This movie makes a mockery of healthy, moral relationships. With indecent language, immoral sex and no redemptive values, wise Americans will avoid DEF JAM’S HOW TO BE A PLAYER

DEF JAM’S HOW TO BE A PLAYER opens with the hero, Dray Jackson (Bill Bellamy), dreaming that his steady girlfriend, Lisa, has unexpectedly stopped by on her way to work and has discovered a trail of women’s clothes extending from his front door to Dray’s bedroom, where she finds him in bed with his latest conquest. Relieved that he was only dreaming, Jackson gets up and begins his day in his posh LA apartment, decorated in 1990’s hip style. He turns to his telephone answering machine and listens with anticipation to all the licentious messages from his string of current girlfriends. He tells himself that each of these are just “statistics”.
Meanwhile, Dray’s college student sister, Jennie (Natalie Dessell), and her girlfriend, Katrina, select him as the perfect research subject for their anthropology class assignment. Jenny wants to expose her brother’s lifestyle of secrets and lies to his many girlfriends.
Picking up his wannabe womanizer friends, David, Kilo and Spootie, he takes them for a cruise in his red 1963 T-Bird and tries to train them in how to pick up women. He shares with them how to find and bed married women (“a player’s dream”), how to encourage a lusty woman’s desire to play “nurse” and what his relationships with these women mean to him: sexual statistics. He impresses them with his smooth-talking prowess.
The film concludes as Jennie, continuing to gather her anthropology research, invites all Dray’s girlfriends at once to a party at which she hopes he will repent and reform himself.
