MUNCHIE is a pint-sized troll who uses magical thinking to bring happiness to a 10-year-old boy. This children’s video was produced by low-budget filmmaker Roger Corman and lists Madame Zolta as its occultic advisor. The movie brings together an all-star cast to explore occultism as an easy solution to childhood dilemmas. The story begins with Gage Dobson, a 5th grader with big problems: He is failing math, his classmates bully him, he has a crush on pretty Andrea who ignores him, his parents are divorced, and Mom is dating a nerdy college professor. After a humiliating day at school, Gage wanders into a tool shed and discovers Munchie the troll. The troll wins his trust by conjuring up a pepperoni pizza. The magic continues as Munchie grants the boy three wishes, allowing Gage to solve his problems at school and at home.
Overall, this movie seduces impressionable children into the world of occult. The filmmakers establish a scenario with which youth will identify and then explore magic as a way to bring about justice. Of course, this technique is evil and forbidden by God. The movie also incites rebellion by implying that children are smarter than their elders.
