In TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! JULIE NEWMAR, Noxeema Jackson and Vida Boheme tie in New York’s Drag Queen Beauty Pageant and win a trip to Hollywood. They take Chi Chi Rodriguez, a young drag “princess”, and drive a 1967 Cadillac convertible to cross the continent in style, but it breaks down in Snyderville, Nebraska. The three queens introduce style and excitement to the ladies of this drab midwestern town and teach the men how to treat the “ladies.” Witty dialogue and humorous interactions with local people provide a funny look at the drag queen lifestyle.

There are only a very few exclamatory profanities and crudities in the dialogue. Even the violence is limited. The movie down plays the homosexual aspect of this lifestyle and ultimately comes across as another attempt to make these aberrant activities politically correct. At one point, Vida says he would like to tell his parents that he doesn’t need their approval, but wants their acceptance. Jesus loves people enough to free them from bondage to the world and transform their lives. The problem with TO WONG FOO is that it implies that we should view outlandish “drag queen” behavior as mainstream rather than as aberrant behavior that Jesus Christ can redeem.
