GOD'S NOT DEAD 2

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
GOD’S NOT DEAD 2 moves into the courtroom as Pastor Dave finds himself on a jury deciding the fate of a teacher who’s being tried because she dared to mention Jesus and his message of nonviolence in her history class. GOD’S NOT DEAD 2 is even more dramatic, riveting and inspiring than the first movie and affirms the Gospel of Jesus Christ even more directly and strongly.

HACKSAW RIDGE

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
HACKSAW RIDGE is a great, emotive, powerful, touching Christian war movie about Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), a courageous conscientious objector who serves as an unarmed medic during the brutal battle of Okinawa in World War II. Brilliantly directed by Mel Gibson, HACKSAW RIDGE is a captivating, emotional movie about uncompromising faith and miraculous courage. It will make you laugh and cry, but strong caution is advised because of bloody violence and some foul language.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR has Captain America resisting Iron Man, the government and the United Nations and becoming an outlaw fighting for liberty, because they want to place the Avengers team under the jurisdiction of the U.N. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is superbly crafted and enthralling, with positive moral, redemptive messages about law and liberty, and against revenge, but too much foul language and some intense action violence warrant strong caution.

RISEN

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
RISEN is about a Roman soldier and non-believer, who hunts for Jesus Christ’s body, not realizing that Jesus has risen from the dead. RISEN is almost like the follow up movie to Mel Gibson’s THE PASSION, with some war violence and killing, but with a powerful Christian, biblical worldview promoting the reality of Jesus Christ’s physical resurrection.

SILENCE

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
Based on a Japanese novel, SILENCE is an historical drama from Martin Scorsese about two Roman Catholic priests in the 17th Century who travel to Feudal Japan to find out if it’s true that a famous missionary priest has renounced his faith during a brutal campaign of persecution against Christianity. Though a little slow and overlong, SILENCE is still a superbly made, often heartbreaking movie that ultimately paints a strong positive picture of Japan’s earliest Christian missionaries and converts, but some extreme violence and complex theology warrant extreme caution.

BEN-HUR (2016)

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
BEN-HUR is a remake of the beloved 1959 classic starring Charlton Heston, featuring Jack Huston as the Jewish prince who runs afoul of his Roman friend, gets sentenced to a slave ship and must forsake his lust for revenge while meeting Jesus Christ and his disciples, who preach forgiveness. BEN-HUR is very exciting, especially the sea battle and the chariot race, but turns the message of the good news of salvation into a lesson about forgiveness.

THE FINEST HOURS

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
THE FINEST HOURS shows the Coast Guard coming to the rescue when a terrible storm in 1952 causes an oil tanker to break in half. Thoroughly riveting and suspenseful once the story takes off, THE FINEST HOURS has a strong Christian, moral worldview, with acts of sacrifice, but there is some foul language.

SULLY

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
SULLY is a very powerful, miraculous, heroic story about the airline pilot who safely landed 175 people in the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009. SULLY takes a small slice of life and turns it into a tremendous insight into the political, politically correct battles of our day. Caution is advised for older children because of some light foul language and intense air crash moments.

EDDIE THE EAGLE

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
EDDIE THE EAGLE is the true story of Eddie Edwards, a young British man who overcame severe athletic ineptitude, the scorn of other athletes and lack of support from his own father to become a national hero in the 1988 Olympics. EDDIE THE EAGLE is a delightful movie about redemption and overcoming obstacles, with a very strong moral worldview, but there is some drunkenness and mild, very brief suggestive content. So, caution is advised for older children.

HAIL, CAESAR!

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
HAIL, CAESAR! is a comedy about a fixer at a fictional 1950s Hollywood studio, whose major star is kidnapped and held for ransom while shooting a biblical epic. HAIL, CAESAR! is quirky and entertaining, with a surprisingly strong Christian worldview, but caution is advised for a few strong profanities and one or two off-color innuendoes.
