KICKBOXER 2

What You Need To Know:

KICKBOXER 2 is a lawlessly barbaric, martial arts movie. David Sloan runs a kickboxing gym. He is asked to join the United Kickboxing Association, or UKA, by Justin and Cary. They can't persuade David, but entice his best student, Brian. Struggling financially, David agrees to fight the UKA champion. David is victorious. Seeking revenge, the defeated champion breaks into the gym and sets it ablaze. David confronts him and is beaten to a pulp. A trainer from Thailand shows up to help David regain his strength. Meanwhile, Justin has been training Brian to become their new champion. In Brian's championship match, he is pitted against Tom Poe, the Thai kickboxer who shot and killed David's brothers. Brian is smashed to death by Poe. To avenge his student, David approaches Justin. A duel is set up, two hours after Brian's deadly match, in which David ends up killing Poe and his Thai partner.

KICKBOXER 2 laces graphic violence with a corrupting Eastern world view. David tells his students that a focused mind is the most powerful tool in the universe. Our carnal mind is insufficient in conquering temptations (Ephesians 2:1). Only Christ's blood (rather than man's) is sufficient atonement for our sins.

More Detail:

“Put up, shut up, or die,” reads the movie marquee for KICKBOXER 2, the lawlessly barbaric, martial arts movie. For an enduring 90 minutes, the screen is filled with a mixture of blood, sweat and mucous as men are brutally beaten.

David Sloan runs a kickboxing gym, in which he trains aspiring teenagers and young adults. He is asked to join the United Kickboxing Association, or UKA, by Justin and Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa, two shady business promoters. They can’t persuade David to join, but successfully entice his best student, Brian.

With David’s gym struggling financially, he agrees to fight the UKA champion. Both boxers’ faces are severely bruised, but David is victorious.

Seeking revenge, the defeated UKA champion breaks into the Sloan gym and sets it ablaze. David confronts him and is beaten to a pulp. Fortunately, a trainer from Thailand shows up to help David regain his strength.

Meanwhile, Justin and his UKA entourage have been training Brian to become their new champion. Modern training methods are used, including steroids.

Finally, in Brian’s championship match, he is pitted against Tom Poe, the murderous kickboxer from Thailand who killed David’s brothers by shooting them. Brian is smashed to death by Poe.

David watches the fight in horror. Wishing to avenge the death of his best student, he approaches Justin’s business partner. Evidently, the fight was masterminded to get David into the ring with Poe so that Thailand’s honor can be restored.

David’s brother had beaten Poe in their kickboxing fight, and Poe jealously murdered him. Now a private duel is set up, two hours after Brian’s deadly match, in which David ends up killing Poe and his Thai business partner.

Overall, KICKBOXER 2 laces graphic violence with an Eastern world view. David tells his students that a focused mind is the most powerful tool in the universe, enabling them to overcome all temptations.

Diametrically-opposed to this philosophy, Christian theism espouses that Jehovah God is the omniscient, sovereign master of the universe. Our carnal mind is insufficient in conquering temptations because of our depraved human nature (Ephesians 2:1). In contrast to kickboxing, Christ’s blood (rather than man’s) is sufficient atonement for our sins.
