Tim Tebow is Producing a Faith-Based Movie

By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer

Tim Tebow: A follower of Christ, a former NFL player, professional baseball player and now movie producer! Is there a career path this guy won’t try?

Tebow and his older brother, Robby, are finishing up the final touches on their movie RUN THE RACE, which follows a pair of brothers that cope with adversity after their mother dies and father leaves them. In an interview with USA Today, Tebow shared about the movie, “There are a lot of similarities in my life between two brothers supporting one another. My family and my brother have always given me so much support. That’s made such a big impact on my being able to go after my dreams.”

Tebow told The Hollywood Reporter about the content of the movie; “This is a story about overcoming the hard issues of life, about the power of sacrifice, the power of family and the power of forgiveness,” Tebow said. “I love being a part of a project like this because it will impact lives.”

RUN THE RACE is directed by Chris Dowling (WHERE HOPE GROWS, ROCK SLYDE), who also co-wrote the script. The stars include Mykelti Williamson, best known as Bubba in FORREST GUMP, and Tanner Stine and Evan Hofer who will play the brothers.

Eddie George makes a cameo in the movie. George won the Heisman trophy in 1995 before playing for the Houston Oilers, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans in the NFL. “Somebody’s going to deal with adversity.” George spoke of the movie, “somebody’s going to deal with loss. Somebody’s going to deal with pain. Somebody’s going to deal with victory and success. I think this film reflects that.” Like George, Tebow also won the Heisman in 2007.

Tebow and his brother Robby also try their hand at acting, appearing in a brief cameo. When asked if he’s considered pursuing acting further, Tebow says, “I have thought about it from time to time. I’m waiting for the right role that would click with my personality and my heart. It’s something I would be open to maybe one day.”

Fans of Tebow know his journey has been full of athletic injuries and personal criticisms. Despite it all, it seems Tebow has his head on straight and he keeps adding new skills to his resume.

Tebow isn’t the only Christian athlete attempting to enter the filmmaking world. Professional basketball player Stephen Curry announced that he’ll be starting his own production company as well that will produce faith-based movies.
