Tom Cruise Thanks Moviegoers For Support Of TOP GUN: MAVERICK With Impressive Stunt

Tom Cruise is thanking moviegoers for their support of TOP GUN: MAVERICK this year in a pretty impressive way — by jumping out of a helicopter!

TOP GUN: MAVERICK is about to be added to Paramount+, the company’s streaming service.

Cruise thanked fans for supporting the movie while it was in theaters with a video of him performing the dangerous stunt.

“Hey everyone, Here we are over sunny South Africa,” Cruise said while riding in the helicopter. “And we’re filming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — DEAD RECKONING parts one and two.”

He continued, “I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters, and thank you for supporting TOP GUN: MAVERICK.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE’s director Christopher McQuarrie then told Cruise to get on with the stunt. Cruise jokingly asked if McQuarrie would be joining him in the jump, to which the director replied, “Not on your life.”

Cruise then jumped out of the plane, continuing to address the camera as he fell.

“As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime,” he said. “Very lucky. I’m running out of altitude, so I better get back to work. We gotta get this shot. You have a very safe and happy holiday. We’ll see you at the movies.”

Cruise has been extremely supportive of movie theaters over the past few years. The actor even refused to have TOP GUN: MAVERICK premiere on streaming services at the height of the pandemic. Instead, he insisted the movie’s premiere be pushed back until theaters were open again.

His persistence paid off — TOP GUN: MAVERICK went on to be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Movieguide® previously reported:

Tom Cruise’s TOP GUN: MAVERICK continues to rise above the competition.

The Paramount and Skydance production starring Tom Cruise recently surpassed the $1 billion mark this past weekend.

The TOP GUN sequel is only the second movie released post the COVID-19-related shutdowns to surpass $1 billion. SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME made $1.9 billion. However, TOP GUN: MAVERICK earned the impressive milestone without the aid of significant markets in China and Russia, which did not play the patriotic blockbuster.

Cruise celebrated the achievement via his Twitter: “To all the films in release, to all the studios, and to all the exhibitors: congratulations. To the audience: thank you for venturing out and allowing us to entertain you. See you at the movies.”

Movieguide® previously reported of TOP GUN: MAVERICK:

TOP GUN: MAVERICK has been blowing up the box office, garnering more than $800 million worldwide. This massive take off makes it Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie ever, beating out other popular franchises like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.

Half of that $800 million comes from the domestic box office, where the movie scooped up $422.2 million.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK is currently the highest grossing movie in America, proving that audiences will happily turn out for a movie that touts strong values, opposed to the progressive agenda of LIGHTYEAR, which had a dismal opening weekend.
