SOUND OF FREEDOM Beats INDIANA JONES, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE at Box Office

By Movieguide® Contributor

SOUND OF FREEDOM continues to dominate at the box office, beating out iconic franchises MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and INDIANA JONES.

Since its July 4 release, Angel Studios’ SOUND OF FREEDOM has earned $174 million domestically.

“That’s more than INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY’s $172.9 million (released June 30) and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE‘s $160.8 million (released July 12),” People reported.

Variety called SOUND OF FREEDOM “the highest-grossing indie film since 2019’s PARASITE” and predicts that its “tally will only grow as a robust international release kicks off.”

SOUND OF FREEDOM’s success proves that people are interested in stories with truthful, moral messages. Tim Ballard, the man whose story inspired SOUND OF FREEDOM, said viewers are “looking for meaning, they’re looking for purpose. It’s resonated because we need to find solutions.”

Though SOUND OF FREEDOM beat its competitors in the domestic market, its international success is still unknown. Angel Studios did not anticipate the movie’s domestic success, so they were not initially planning to release it internationally.

Movieguide® recently reported on Angel Studios’ plans for the movie’s international release:

‘Since SOUND OF FREEDOM launched in the U.S., demand has been building around the world in dozens of regions and languages,’ Jared Geesey, Angel Studios’ vice president of global distribution, said. ‘Child trafficking is a global issue, and we hope to build on the incredible momentum here in the States and share the film’s powerful message worldwide.’

The incredible success that the movie has found in the States has allowed it to expand into the global market.

SOUND OF FREEDOM opens in South Africa on Aug. 18, followed by Australia and New Zealand on Aug. 24. On Aug. 31, it expands to Latin America, showing in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Belize, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. On Sept. 1, it reaches the United Kingdom and Ireland and will play in Spain starting Oct. 11.
