Disney+ teams up with Swimply to create immersive swim-and-cinema experiences.
Three L.A. swimming pools will be transformed into recreations of HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS, CAMP ROCK and ALIEN.
“The Disney+ Dive-In Theater allows fans to connect with their favorite films in a way they’ve never been able to before,” Samantha Rosenberg, executive vice president of marketing for Disney+, said Monday. “Following the success of our Disney+ Throwback Experience earlier this summer, we’re seeing audiences crave real-world experiences that let them step into the stories they love.”
Guests will watch a movie while they swim and enjoy interactive elements and photo ops during the experience.
In the HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS experience, guests get to enter through a shrink ray laser tunnel and emerge to giant features, like a large popcorn box and cereal bowl pool.
Swimply’s description reads, “The biggest movie event of the summer is tiny! Shrink yourself down to a miniature scale and watch Honey, I Shrunk the Kids from the comfort of a pool turned into a cereal bowl! Lounge on cereal-shaped floaties and surrounded yourself with a larger-than-life immersive theater experience. Complete with giant ants, giant grass, giant bottle cap seats, and giant pretty much everything!”
The experiences are available for just a few days: from late July through August.
“Swimply is all about escaping locally and transporting yourself to another realm – both physically and mentally,” said Bunim Laskin, CEO and Co-Founder of Swimply. “On the screen, nobody does that better than Disney+, so we couldn’t be more excited to collaborate and bring that magic to Swimply backyards.”

The HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS experience is available from July 29-Aug. 1.
The CAMP ROCK experience is available Aug. 6-9. It has a fire pit, a friendship-bracelet-making station, bunk assignments, and a stage with a lake-like pool.
In the ALIEN experience, guests will find a green-lighted pool awaiting them. They can pose in flight suits and enjoy the sci-fi design from Aug. 14-17.
Swimply’s ALIEN experience asks, “Can the most terrifying movie ever get even more terrifying? Just did! Dive into our immersive Alien movie experience and watch this classic from the murky depths of a pool turned into a watery grave.”
“With a coordinated light show, photo ops, and a few special (and terrifying) surprises in-store – the scare factor just got turned way, way up!” it continued.
It also offers a hot tub, drinks and food.
Fans can enter for a chance to attend through the Swimply app or through Swimply.com, a Disney+ press release said.
