THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie calls the effect the show has on fans “humbling” and “awe-inspiring.”

“Everything I do starts with prayer,” the actor said during an interview on HUCKABEE. “So for me, it was about just praying that God would use me as a vessel to communicate His spirit in this story in a way that is so beautifully written by Dallas [Jenkins, the show’s creator] and his team, and to communicate, you know, the love and compassion of Christ and mercy of God to humanity and just try not to get in the way of that.”

When asked how he feels about the impact THE CHOSEN has had on its viewers around the world, Roumie said it was “humbling.”

“It’s awe-inspiring,” he added. “It’s kind of incredible to think that you could be part of something that is so tangibly and substantially effective on people’s personal and spiritual lives.”

He elaborated on the moving fan encounters he has had through THE CHOSEN in an interview with PEOPLE.

“The reactions have been profound,” Roumie shared. “I just met somebody whose friend was suffering from anxiety to the point where they stopped driving, they didn’t leave their house, they didn’t go out, and as they started watching the show, something started to change within them and their faith grew and this lady started going out of her house again, and now she’s driving again, and she credits that to this impact that it’s had on her faith.”

The cast and crew of THE CHOSEN are currently hard at work on Season 6, which will depict Jesus’ crucifixion.

“We’re about halfway through Season 6,” Roumie shared in a recent interview, via AOL. “It’s been the most difficult thing we’ve ever done. And for many of us as actors, it was the most challenging work that we’ve ever had to do. For many of us, spiritually and emotionally, it was excruciating; it was brutal.”

He predicted that viewers will be “devastated” by what they see in Season 6, explaining, “Beyond the image of it, you have five and a half seasons of getting to know this character in a completely different context and loving these characters and then seeing him and then his friends.”

“Everyone suffers in Season 6,” Roumie concluded. “Nobody’s exempt, and it’s just going to be devastating.”

Fans of THE CHOSEN are excited to see the upcoming episodes of the show, and it looks like the cast members are just as ready to see the effect the new season will have on viewers.
