The Russo Brothers shared an indiscernible blurry image on their Instagram as they teased the upcoming Avengers movie which looks to bring phase six of the MCU to a close.
“I think we’re always looking for new faces because there’s always new stories to tell,” Joe Russo told The Hollywood Reporter in February about what to expect from the upcoming movie. “I think these movies are going to be a surprise to people — we found a way into the story that’s very exciting to us but we think very radical and I think it’s going to challenge audiences.”
The most recent Instagram teaser, which featured the hashtag #DoomsdayIsComing, may hint to who one of these faces could be. Many fans speculate the extremely zoomed in image may be of white lettering on a black surface — possibly Richard Reed’s, otherwise known as Mr. Fantastic, chalkboard. Those working on the movie have previously floated the idea of introducing The Fantastic Four or The X-Men to the Avengers team, which now seems more likely than ever.

“The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along,” said Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. “In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the FANTASTIC FOUR movie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY].”
“It was another dream that we just didn’t think about for many years,” Fiege added of the opportunity to bring the X-Men into the MCU.
Recent movies, however, have been laying the groundwork for all of these stories to collide, such as Deadpool and Wolverine teaming up in DEADPOOL X WOLVERINE, Mr. Fantastic’s pondering of time travel and a post-credits scene in THUNDERBOLTS* which saw an Excelsior spaceship arriving at Earth 616.
Actors working on the movie have also expressed just how expansive the movie will be as they are flabbergasted by how many stars are walking around the set.
“I’ve never been on a set like this in my life,” THUNDERBOLTS* star David Harbour said. “I’ve never seen anything like this. You saw those chairs. So it’s like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie. There’s what’s his face doing that speech.’ It’s just enormous.”
While the most recent teaser provided fans with little info, they will have many months to ruminate on its meaning along with other future teasers as AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY is not set to hit theaters until Dec. 18, 2026.
