Disney announced this week that another Marvel Studios film will be released on Dec. 15, 2028.

The movie is currently untitled but will be Marvel’s “fourth feature from the division set for that calendar year, with previously announced films scheduled for release in February, May and November of 2028,” per Variety.

This comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger criticized recent Marvel projects, saying the company “lost a little focus by making too much.”

“We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more,” Iger said over the phone in May. “We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.”

Variety noted, however, that it’s “unclear” whether or not Disney will actually release four Marvel movies in 2028. The company notoriously holds onto “release dates for feature projects well past when those films could realistically make those dates to ensure they remain available for other films from the company.”

Marvel’s next movie is THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS, slated to release in theaters nationwide on July 25. It features a star-studded cast including Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) and more.

“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal,” an official logline of the film reads.

A major theme of the film is “Family. 🩵💙🩵💙,” which Pascal shared on social media, adding “#TheFantasticFour: First Steps opens in Latin America on July 24. July 25 in North America. Tickets on sale now.”

In 2026, Marvel is set to release two films: SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY and AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY. Then, in 2027, the studio will drop AVENGERS: SECRET WARS.

Superhero fans will have to wait to see what Marvel’s fourth film of its 2028 line-up is all about.
