Director Oliver Stone Calls Out Hollywood for Being ‘Too Fragile, Too Sensitive’

Movie director Oliver Stone thinks it’s “ridiculous” that the Hollywood industry has become so sensitive.

“Everything has become too fragile, too sensitive,” Stone said. “… You can’t make a film without a sensitivity counselor.”

The NIXON director also called out the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their bend toward inclusivity.

In recent years, the Academy has changed their rules to allow for more inclusivity and diversity.

“It’s politically correct [expletive], and it’s not a world I’m anxious to run out into,” Stone added. “I’ve never seen it quite mad like this. It’s like an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ tea party.”

Stone is not the first to call out Hollywood’s increasing sensitivity bent.

Other celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld (THE BEE MOVIE, SEINFELD) and Tim Allen (TOY STORY, LAST MAN STANDING) have made similar comments.

“It’s more about PC nonsense than ‘Are you making us laugh or not?,” Seinfeld said in 2014.

In recent months, Tim Allen said on THE VIEW, “What I got to do sometimes is explain, which I hate, in big arenas, that this is a thought police thing, and I do not like it. But when I use these words, this is my intent behind those words.”

Stone’s movies tend to have nuggets of morality but oftentimes merit extreme caution.

In recent years, Stone directed SNOWDEN which had a strong moral worldview. However, many of Stone’s movies are absolutely abhorrent and not recommended viewing for any age.

He also directed WORLD TRADE CENTER which was nominated for a Movieguide® Award.

Currently, Stone is in post-production on a John F. Kennedy documentary.

Stone will release his memoir, “Chasing The Light,” about the ups and downs of filmmaking on July 21, 2020.
