Disney’s D23 Expo Postponed to September 2022

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

Disney’s D23 Expo has been postponed a year due to the continued threat of COVID-19.

The fan expo usually takes place every two years, with the last one held in August of 2019.

Instead of being held next summer, the expo will take place September 9-11, 2022.

Movieguide® has attended several past expos.

D23 is known for bringing huge announcements about upcoming projects from the Walt Disney Company.

In 2019, the company teased projects like ONWARD, FROZEN II, BLACK WIDOW, ETERNALS, STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, MULAN (2020), SPIES IN DISGUISE, and many more, Variety reports.

They didn’t just tease the projects, either.

The Hollywood Reporter shared that some of the stars of the upcoming movies made surprise appearances, including Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for their movie JUNGLE CRUISE, and Tom Holland and Chris Pratt for ONWARD.

The cast of Marvel’s ETERNALS also showed up as the movie was originally slated to release this November but has since been pushed to next November.

JUNGLE CRUISE and BLACK WIDOW were also pulled from their 2020 release dates and received new dates in 2021.

Disney also used D23 to announce their widely successful streaming service, Disney+.

When the next D23 happens in 2022, the company will use it as an event to start the celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary.

Walt Disney founded the company in 1923.
