Former country singer-turned-pastor Granger Smith joined the “Matthew West Podcast” and discussed how he found the true meaning of life through the question, “Who is Jesus to me?”

It wasn’t until he realized he needed God’s mercy that he began asking that question.

“Is He a cultural icon? Is He the top three priorities on an American’s list? Or was He my savior, and what does a savior even mean? Because a savior insinuates someone that is dead or dying and has no hope,” Smith said. “That’s what a savior insinuates. I mean, someone that has things figured out is in no need of a savior. So, unpacking all that stuff led me to quite the search, quite the journey, listening to different sermons on YouTube.”

There was one sermon in particular that Smith happened to come across that completely changed his life.

The pastor was preaching on John 14, and Smith recalled him reading, “So the disciples asked Jesus, ‘Lord, why is it that you manifest yourself to us but not to the rest of the world?’ Jesus answers him, ‘If anyone loves me, he will keep my word and my father will come to him and we will make our home with him.'”

“And I thought to myself, right then, I thought, ‘I am loved. I am redeemed. I am restored. I’m forgiven. I am healed,” Smith said.

Since fully giving his life to Christ, Smith retired from country music and now ministers to others.

He recently hosted a two-day event that included a mud bog competition, a truck show and a live concert from Smith.

“So much fun at @yeeyeefest! Full of gratitude for so many—all who came, worked, competed, performed, hosted, filmed, showed, served, cooked, sold, built, crewed, secured, policed, parked, mowed, promoted, planned, dreamed,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram.

He continued: “None more than my brother @tylersmith11. Last night in the midst of such an incredible night I was struck with the realization that all of this came from Tyler’s vision — even the fact that he pulled me out of country music retirement for this one special weekend. The best part is how gripped his heart is for the Lord and His people. That’s when you know it’s worth it.

Smith’s life is dedicated to sharing the gospel, whether that’s through his apparel company, Yee Yee Apparel, his YouTube podcast or his Instagram encouragements.
