David Nurse has worked with many NBA players, but not in the way that one would think.
Nurse sat down with The 700 Club to discuss his book and role on the team.
“When you play at that high of a level and there is so much pressure on you every single day and there are millions of dollars and millions of eyes on you, you have to be able to take another step and take another level. To be able to block out any insecurities, any self-doubt, because they’re all human [speaking of NBA athletes],” he stated.
“But just like all of us, we all struggle with fears,” he added.
Nurse then discussed what truly holds athletes and people back.
“We are our own biggest defenders, imagine where you’re at right now and the place that you want to get to,” he said. “There is a valley in there which is covered by self-doubt, uncertainty, and fear and the only way over to be where I say is our full potential, which is actually our full alignment with God, who God created us to be, is taking strategic radical action when we don’t know where it’s going to land. Taking a chance and not knowing if it’s going to work out.”
He added, “Taking action is everything. God has created us to take action. I don’t think God created anybody to just go through the motions or play it safe. He’s created us to be big, but this world tells us, ‘No. you have to stay in this little box.’ And ultimately, we hold ourselves back because we don’t trust that God has that plan for us, and we walk in fear instead of faith.”
“But isn’t it fascinating that every single person in the bible went through some kind of crazy difficulty but achieved greatness because God has that plan for all of us,” he expressed with passion.
David Nurse’s recent book is called ‘Do It: The Life-Changing Power of Taking Action’ which is where he talks about nine different types of fears that we as humans struggle with but how we can use scripture to combat those fears.
