SANTA CLAUS star Tim Allen is hoping “three’s a charm” for his new series, SHIFTING GEARS.

“I am very excited. You know, I tried really hard with HOME IMPROVEMENT, and then LAST MAN STANDING,” Allen told Entertainment Tonight. “Maybe three’s a charm! Maybe I can finally make a statement with this.”

Movieguide® reported on SHIFTING GEARS on March 8:

Tim Allen is returning to ABC with a new pilot order for sitcom SHIFTING GEARS.

“In the project, Allen plays Matt, the ‘stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,’” Variety reported.

The actor and writers Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully are also slated to executive produce on the show.

Allen will also executive produce the show. Per The Wrap, this is Allen’s first partnership with ABC since LAST MAN STANDING.

Several of LAST MAN STANDING’s episodes received nominations for Movieguide® Teddy Bear Awards®. Allen also received a Teddy Bear Award® and a Grace Award® nomination for his performance in the “Back to School” episode of LAST MAN STANDING.

“It was a big event for me, ’cause I really loved HOME IMPROVEMENT, [so] to do LAST MAN STANDING was a big push, and then I love that family so much,” Allen said. “But then ABC said, ‘If you come up with an idea,’ and I said, ‘If I did it, it would be this.’ And we came up with this idea, and we’re getting there.”

“I’m very geeked to be given this opportunity,” he said.

Allen recently starred in the Disney+ spinoff THE SANTA CLAUSES, where he also served as an executive director. He “has continued to provide the voice acting for Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s Toy Story movies,” the Detroit Metro Times reported.
