Tim Tebow reminded his fans about how we should view ourselves and that remembering we are part of God’s plan should change how we live.

“I used to think being made in God’s image was just a label we wore. But it’s so much more than that. You are His image, part of His design, part of His story,” Tebow wrote on Instagram. “That truth changes everything. Your worth isn’t something you wear. It’s who you are.”

Tebow often uses his platform to encourage his fans to seek their purpose and engage with God’s plan for their life. Tebow lives out this calling himself, turning the platform football gave him into an organization that has changed thousands of lives across the world as he serves the most vulnerable people groups.

“If you have breath, you have purpose,” Tebow wrote in April of 2024. “I believe every single one of us has a mission. What does ‘mission’ mean? Mission means a task or a job someone is given to do, but its origin actually means to be sent… I believe every single one of us has been sent here for a reason. No matter if we feel equipped, or if we feel too young or too old. If you have breath, you have purpose, you have a mission.”

Tebow’s words reflect a very important Biblical truth as the Bible is full of story after story of the Lord equipping people to who do not see themselves as the right person for the job. All to often, we disqualify ourselves from fulfilling the purpose the Lord has for our life because we believe He has made a mistake or we are not hearing Him properly.

Take Moses, for example. After meeting with the Lord at the burning bush, he spends two chapters trying to explain to the Lord why He has made a mistake in picking him. First he says, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11). Then in the next chapter after the Lord gives him miracles to prove He is with him, Moses adds, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10). Finally, Moses attempts to flat out reject the Lord, saying, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else” (Exodus 4:13).

Despite what Moses believed, the Lord had a plan for his life and used him to save his people from the hand of Pharaoh, which set the stage for the Lord to establish the Israelites as a nation set apart.

Moses is not unique in his doubt and questioning, nor is he unique in how the Lord equipped him with everything he needed and was by his side the entire time. The Lord is still on the move today, and Tebow’s reminder is a powerful call to submit to His will and live into His design for our life instead of fighting it and missing something great.
