Daniel Lissing Doesn’t Regret Leaving WCTH for This Sweet Reason

Beloved WHEN CALLS THE HEART star Daniel Lissing, who played Jack Thornton for the first five seasons of the show, left the series after his character died.

Although he felt bittersweet that his time on the show was ending, that departure allowed him to meet his future wife, Nadia.

In 2018, he and Nadia met while vacationing in Iceland.

“According to the actor’s Instagram, he was hanging out with friends in Iceland. Meanwhile, Nadia told Entertainment Tonight that she was in the middle of traveling the country after earning her master’s in business when Daniel approached her in a bar,” PEOPLE reported.

The two married in 2020.

“It’s funny the way the world works,” Lissing told Entertainment Tonight in 2020. “If I had stayed on the show [WCTH], and been there during season 6 and shot and all that kind of stuff, then I wouldn’t have met Nadia, you know?”

He added: “I wouldn’t be getting married and I wouldn’t be at this place in my life where I feel really in line with what I’m meant to be doing personally and professionally, so no regrets at all.”

“How can I look at my future wife and say, ‘I should’ve stayed on this job’? She’s my life,” he added. “And that’s exponentially more important to me than a job.”

Nadia said of her husband, “I’d never met anyone like him before, that’s for sure! There was an instant connection, deeper than anything physical, mental or even explainable.”

In fact, she had no idea Lissing was famous because he didn’t show it.

“The first time I experienced that he was famous — you’d never know from him — it was a little strange,” she told ET. “But after meeting so many amazing fans that are inspired by him, I feel proud and that he is doing good things in the world. I really respect all the support he gets.”

When ET asked how Lissing knew Nadia was the one, he said, “Easy. She is. Simple as that. I think everyone that’s been down this road knows exactly what I mean.”

“[She’s] totally up for any adventure. Makes me laugh everyday, many times a day,” he continued. “Honestly, she’s different to anyone I’ve met on my travels. But most importantly, she can put up with me, and that’s no easy feat!”
