NOT TODAY is a compelling, moving story, with topnotch production values. It follows one young man’s personal growth as he sees the world for all its ugliness, yet chooses to help others. The script is moving. The ending brings tears, not only because of the emotions it creates but also because of the reality of the situation. While didactic at times, NOT TODAY is a compelling, emotionally satisfying movie. The actors and producers appear at the end with a call to action to join the fight against trafficking. Despite this mature theme, no lurid content is shown onscreen. However, because of the subject matter, NOT TODAY is not a movie for young children.

NOT TODAY is a story that exposes the heinous world of child sex trafficking in India through the eyes of a spoiled rich American.
Caden is a twentysomething narcissistic young man who has fabulous wealth at his disposal and a desire to only serve himself. He goes to India with his friends on a whim. There, he encounters a young 7-year-old girl, Annika, and her father, Kiran. They ask Caden for food since Annika hasn’t eaten in days. Caden refuses to help them, even when they help him. This forces Kiran to sell his daughter to a man who promises she can become a housekeeper to a rich family.
Caden slowly learns that the girl was instead sold into prostitution, unknown to her father. Caden and Kiran then begin a journey to try to find and rescue Annika. They go deeper into the wicked world of child prostitution. Caden is forced to encounter his own guilt at not helping them and his selfish worldview. With the help of a girlfriend back home and a praying mom and stepfather, Caden returns to his faith in Jesus Christ, from which he had run away.
NOT TODAY is a compelling, moving story that follows the growth of Caden to see the world for all its ugliness and to choose to help. The script is moving and the finale does bring tears because of the movie’s emotions but also because of the reality of this kind of true story.
The production values in NOT TODAY are topnotch and the acting is strong. When Hindi is spoken, the subtitles appear in unique, often whimsical fonts and layouts. This technique at times is both compelling and distracting. There’s a strong didactic element to the story as the movie is intended to motivate action to fight sex trafficking. At the end of the story, the actors and producers appear with a call to action to get involved and help fight trafficking.
Although the movie’s theme is very dark, no negative content is shown onscreen. Caden is moved by seeing rooms of young girls who are sex slaves, but it’s their innocent faces that makes the point. There are no lurid details.
Because of its subject matter, NOT TODAY is not a movie for young children. However, it is a movie that’s dramatic and emotionally satisfying. NOT TODAY effectively encourages viewers to want to take action so that other girls won’t have the same story as Annika.
