SUPERGIRL: RED FACED

Watch:

Content:

(BB, Ro, Fe, L, VV, A, M) Strong moral worldview of good triumphant over evil, and SUPERGIRL rules over city (like the Lord rules over earth), mitigated by some Romantic elements of being true to oneself and feminist elements of women seeking equality, as title heroine fights for her own identity apart from world’s expectations of what a woman should be; two obscenities include one “h” word and one inference of the “s” word, plus one irreverent, profane use of God; intense action violence includes heroine being punched, thrown and strangled several times; no sex; no nudity; several references to drinking, as heroine and her boss have drinks at local bar; no smoking or drugs; and, dysfunctional family portrayal as one character reveals she never lived up to her mother’s expectations, and a general theme of revenge and greed as villains try to overtake the world.

More Detail:

Episode 6 of SUPERGIRL, titled “Red Faced,” shows Supergirl’s emotional side when her anger interferes with her ability to save the world. While trying to stop two motorists embroiled in road rage from hurting some children, Supergirl hurts one of the drivers, frightening the children. This weighs on Supergirl, as does the increasing romance between Lucy Lane and Jimmy Olson, and her boss’s demanding, demeaning attitude. Supergirl realizes she’s secretly angry at being unable to have a normal life because of her superhero role. Meanwhile, Lucy’s father, General Lane, asks SUPERGIRL to fight his robot creation, Red Tornado. She releases her anger on it, causing it to go into self-preservation mode, endangering the city. Will Supergirl learn to channel her anger in more constructive ways?

As always, SUPERGIRL wows with special effects, exciting action and engaging plotlines. Episode 6 may be the best episode yet. Even better, the theme of learning to control your anger is a great moral lesson. However, there’s two obscenities and profanities and intense action violence in Episode 6 of SUPERGIRL. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
