Netflix Adds Mobile Video Games: ‘We Want To Build A Library Of Games That Offers Something For Everyone’

By Movieguide® Staff

Netflix officially expanded its media content. Instead of adding more movies, the streaming giant launched its first video game apps for subscribed Android users.

Netflix teased their idea for a new slate of mobile games earlier this year but made their broad release announcement on Nov. 3.

“We love games, whether it’s physical games (Floor Is Lava), mind games (The Circle) or Squid Game😉. And we love entertaining our members. That’s why we’re excited to take our first step in launching Netflix games on mobile to the world,” Netflix announced.

“Starting today, members everywhere can play five mobile games: Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop),” Netflix added.

The apps are available to play on Google Play for all Netflix members on Android and can also be found on the Netflix app.

“Whether you’re craving a casual game you can start from scratch or an immersive experience that lets you dig deeper into your favorite stories, we want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone. We’re in the early days of creating a great gaming experience, and we’re excited to take you on this journey with us,” Netflix said.

According to Variety, Netflix plans to roll out games with support for iOS users in the upcoming months.

Variety reported:

Netflix’s mobile games are available in many of the languages it offers in the app, and the games will automatically default to the preference set in your Netflix profile. If your language is not yet available, games will default to English. The games are not available on Netflix Kids profiles.

“We’re a one-product company with a bunch of supporting elements that help that product be an incredible satisfaction for consumers and a monetizing engine for investors,” Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings said.

Media discernment is critical when assessing what movies, TV shows, and video games are consumed.

Previous Movieguide® research revealed that a large portion of Netflix’s content contains excessive immorality, including violence, sex, and nudity.

While Movieguide® has yet to preview Netflix’s new list of games, discernment is encouraged.
