The Erwin Brothers Return Home For Filming New Faith-Based Movie, THE JESUS REVOLUTION

By Movieguide® Contributor

Filmmaker Jon Erwin’s latest project, THE JESUS REVOLUTION, brought him back to the place of his youth, Alabama.

In an article on Advance Local, Erwin shared about shooting in his childhood home.

“The cool thing about it is, we’ve actually done this once before with the movie ‘I Still Believe.’ It was a California story,” he said. “I love making movies in Alabama. You can make them much more cost-effectively in Alabama because of the film incentive and just the support from the state. We’ve made several movies in Alabama. I was born and raised in Birmingham, I just love Alabama. My home will always be in Alabama. My heart’s in Alabama, even though we moved to Nashville. Alabama’s home and I love working here, and I want to make as many movies as I can. I love coming back.”

“I love telling true stories. Starting with the film that we made in Alabama, an Alabama story, ‘Woodlawn,’ we just discovered the power of true stories,” he added. “And we’ve done nothing but true stories, pretty much, ever since. This will be our sixth adaptation of true story in a row. It’s always a huge responsibility of stewarding the truth and stewarding real people’s lives and real people’s stories.”

Movieguide® shared details when Pastor Greg Laurie announced the cast for THE JESUS REVOLUTION on Instagram in January:

THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie, Kelsey Grammer, Joel Courtney and Anna Grace Barlow are set to star in JESUS REVOLUTION, a movie by Kingdom Story Company.

The movie follows Greg Laurie’s book, Jesus Revolution, about “the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970’s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies in Southern California.”

THE KISSING BOOTH’s Courtney will portray Laurie with Barlow as his wife, Cathe. Grammer will replace Jim Gaffigan as Chuck Smith, and Movieguide® Grace Prize® Winner Roumie will take on the role of Lonnie Frisbee.

As Movieguide® previously reported that “Laurie recently visited the set of JESUS REVOLUTION and talked with Jon Erwin about the upcoming biopic.”:

“I love this movie,” Jon told Laurie. “I’ve wanted to make this movie for years. It’s original. It’s personal, there’s such a cause behind it, like, ‘God, let’s see this happen again.’ But it’s also going to be really funny. It’s going to be really funny and it’s going to be really heartfelt… It’s one of those movies that’s going to make you laugh as much as it makes you cry. I think it’s going to be this incredible emotional experience in a way people don’t expect.”
