‘Thank God’: ESPN’s Sage Steele Returns to Work After Freak Accident

By Movieguide® Contributor

ESPN commentator Sage Steele is returning to work after a freak accident at the PGA Championship in May this year.

She was covering the event for the sports news network when a stray golf ball hit her in the face.

Steele returned to ESPN earlier this week, her first appearance since the injury.

“It is amazing how quickly life can change, right?” Steele said of the incident. “One moment you’re out on a course just innocently watching amazing golfers play at a golf major. The next moment, you’re on the ground, you’re in pain with your entire life flashing before your eyes scared to death.”

Steele then went through a list of those she wanted to thank for helping her get through the scary experience.

“Thanks to God, because honestly … I feel like the luckiest person in the world to still be here and be standing,” she started. “I want to thank my friends and family, whether we’re related by blood or not. Thank you to all of you. You know who you are. And all those thousands of people who reached out and prayed for me who I’ll never even meet, thank you because I felt all of it.”

She also had a special shoutout for fellow ESPN star Matt Barrie.

“Thank you for making me smile through all of it,” she said. “I need you. I needed you then and I love you with all of my heart. I’ll never forget it.”

Steele is very open about her faith, speaking publicly at churches and posting about her faith on social media. Now that she’s back at work, the ESPN host wants her story to be an inspiration to others who are working to recover from their own issues.
