Christian Artist Embraces God-Given Leadership Role

Christian musician and actress Moriah, wife of for KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone, played her unreleased single “Superwoman” with Erwin McManus and discussed life in the music industry at the Global Leadership Summit.
Moriah shared that as a Latina woman in the music industry, she is learning a lot.
“I’m still very much learning,” she said. “How do you practice leadership in a genre as nebulous and unscripted as songwriting? There’s no ladder to climb here, you know, and there’s no right way to do it.”
Moriah shared that she doesn’t just view herself as just a musical artist. She has several different giftings she uses and considers herself an entrepreneur.
“I love doing all these things, producing films, writing music, making albums, touring,” she said, “but I’m an entrepreneur. Ultimately, I see myself as a brand. I see my songs as a product.”
However, being an entrepreneur and a leader requires knowing who God has created you to be, which she acknowledges.
“I think the most attainable way to practice leadership is to get to know myself,” she said, “to get to know how God created me uniquely, and to embrace and celebrate that.”
Moriah posted clips of her time at the summit to her Instagram account, with the caption, “Pinch me 🤏🏽 did I really just get to share a song and some stories at the Global Leadership Summit? @glnsummit #gls #globalleadershipsummit.”
“Powerful message and song. Cannot wait till it’s release date. 💕,” one fan commented.
Another person said, “Congratulations!! That is a really big deal, and they could not have chosen someone better!”
Movieguide® previously reported on Moriah’s thankfulness to have purpose and the opportunity to make music:
“Why would we be alive in this time, and not 100 years ago, or 100 years from now? Why? I hope everybody asks that question, regardless of their job description. Why do I exist right now, for such a time as this? Why has God put a microphone in front of me?” she continued.
“When I start with the ‘why,’ I find that it often leads to something that’s bigger than myself. I realized that music is a really powerful tool, but it’s not the only tool in the box. … It’s not about any form of success; I don’t need anything, I’m so content, I have way more than I ever thought that I would have just as a person. I really am thankful to be sharing music from an overflow,” she added. “Culturally, particularly this generation, we’re pretty overwhelmed, we’re pretty inundated, and it’s hard to mentally process all that we’re exposed to in a single day, let alone 20 years.
“MŌRIAH’s influence extends beyond acting and music,” she says of her brand on her website. “MŌRIAH co-hosted the highly successful podcast “BECOMING:us” on K-LOVE/AccessMore alongside her GRAMMY AWARD-winning husband, Joel Smallbone, with whom she also co-produced the Lionsgate film UNSUNG HERO,” which released earlier this year.
