Fortnite launched a new Disneyland-themed island, incorporating the most iconic parts of the theme park just in time for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary.
“Some of the most iconic attractions at Disneyland Resort have been reimagined in an exciting new way…in Fortnite! For the first time ever, you can now jump into Fortnite to visit Disneyland Game Rush, Disney’s first Fortnite island inspired by the Disneyland Resort! Experience the magic of Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park attractions in a series of unique Fortnite mini-games,” Disney announced in a blogpost. “From battling hordes of Spider-bots and stormtroopers, to unlocking secrets of the Haunted Mansion, each mini-game brings new rewards and nonstop fun.”

The experience features seven unique mini games based on Disneyland rides and Disney IP. The Disney worlds included in the new Fortnite island include Space Mountain, Star Wars, Haunted Mansion, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Indiana Jones and Matterhorn.
This new theme-park based island is not the only crossover Disney currently has going with the video game. At the beginning of the November, Fortnite also launched a monthlong battle royal season featuring THE SIMPSONS.
These major crossovers come after Disney acquired a $1.5 billion stake in Fortnite’s maker Epic Games in February 2024. At the time, Disney revealed it would ramp up its crossovers with the video game and use it moving forward to promote its IP. This promise has certainly come true this year as beyond the current crossovers, earlier this year, Disney launched a new Star Wars show through the video game, providing players access to the first few episodes of the season, even if they were not Disney+ subscribers.
“Disney and Epic are pioneering the future of social entertainment together, and this expansive Star Wars collaboration offers a glimpse into the type of interactive experiences we envision,” Adam Sussman, the president of Epic Games, said at the time. “We are reimagining what’s possible with immersive storytelling in Fortnite with one of the world’s most beloved franchises — stay tuned for a lot more to come.”
Meanwhile, Disney has been celebrating the 70th anniversary of Disneyland since the beginning of the summer, reflecting on what the theme park has meant to the world while highlighting its most iconic rides and locations.
“[Disney] wanted people to ‘leave their daily frets behind,’ as he said…and come experience, you know, the wonder of fantasy and adventure,” Disney CEO Bob Iger told ABC News’ Will Reeve. “He had very specific ideas in mind in terms of how people could enjoy this place. And one of those ideas was to be in a place that didn’t exist in the real world, and by leaving the real world behind, I think it gave people — it liberated people, really, into having experiences like this.”
While it could be hard for some people to visit Disneyland during this historic year, it is fun to see the company open up the celebration to fans worldwide through the Fortnite experience. It will be interesting to see if more companies follow a similar strategy in the future.
