ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL is back with another Season on PBS.
The Season 6 premiere will be on this Sunday, Jan. 11, on PBS at 9 p.m. There will be six episodes and a bonus Christmas special.
The new season features a time jump to 1945 at the end of WWII. Tristan returns from the war to Dales, where life is a little different than before, Parade reported.
The series is based on a real-life veterinary surgeon, James Alfred Wight, who wrote about his experiences in a series of books.
The series stars Nicholas Ralph as James Herriot, a veterinarian in the Yorkshire Dales. Rachel Shenton stars as his wife, Helen Alderson. Samuel West stars as Siegfried Farnon, the town’s expert vet, who originally hired James.

The character Tristan Farnon is played by Callum Woodhouse. Tristan is Siegried’s younger brother and assistant. Anna Madeley stars as Mrs. Hall, the caretaker of the Farnon house. The eccentric Mrs. Pumphrey is played by Patricia Hodge. And James Anthony-Rose stars as vet student Richard Carmody.
Season 6’s new cast members include Lucy-Jo Hudson, Gaia Wise, Jonathan Hyde, Philip Martin Brown and Chris Gascoyne.
Ralph said of Season 6, “What I personally hope for James in season six is more of the same in that he, you know, he grows into himself personally, professionally, and to continue that building of the foundations from which to raise his family.”
“For season 6, I hope that Tristan just continues on his, you know, journey of maturity, journey of finding his sort of place in the world in terms of work,” Woodhouse said. “And I hope he finally manages to like actually settle down with someone rather than just sort of flitting from woman to woman as he has sort of been in the past.”
Season 5 ended with news that Mrs. Hall’s son, Edward, had survived the war after being lost at sea but was injured, and James returned home after a brucellosis flare, KPC News reported.
“We’d all like to see something wonderful happen to Mrs. Hall,” said Shenton. “Maybe she’ll fall in love.”
“It’d be fantastic if she were to manage to repair her relationship slightly more with Edward and we could see maybe a bit more of him in Skeldale, and for Siegfried, it would just be good for him to just chill out a little bit,” Woodhouse added.
The first five seasons of the show are available on pbs.org with PBS Passport. Episodes are available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and other outlets.
