Marvel fans, brush up on your comic book lore — Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige just teased the two superhero groups the upcoming AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY will bring together.

“The fun of an AVENGERS movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along,” he said in an interview with Marvel. “In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the FANTASTIC FOUR movie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [in DOOMSDAY].”

He continued, “It’s a thrill to see that interaction. And it’s surreal for me, who’s been around for 25 years.”

Vanessa Kirby, who plays Sue Storm, a.k.a. The Invisible Woman, told Deadline she’s been “loving” working on DOOMSDAY, adding, “It’s been a complete privilege.”

She also spoke about how DOOMSDAY directors, the Russo Brothers, put the massive project together.

“They describe it like they’re making a recipe of different ingredients, and it’s unbelievable that these AVENGERS movies work in such a beautiful way,” Kirby said. “You look at INFINITY WAR and you’ve got all these different energies but somehow they all fuse together, and I remember them saying the first one they had no idea if any of them would go together, and it just works.”

She continued, “It’s quite exciting to be a part of something and go, ‘OK, this is my flavor, I don’t know.’ It’s in their hands to work out what flavors go with what and how and where and there’s a surrender in that.”

The Fantastic Four aren’t the only popular heroes who will show up in DOOMSDAY — the X-Men are also set to appear.

“It was another dream that we just didn’t think about for many years,” Fiege said of the opportunity to bring the X-Men into the MCU.

He credited DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE with helping start that process, adding, “and now, we’re really delving into it with DOOMSDAY.”

Little is known about what Marvel has planned for the X-Men, but Variety revealed earlier this summer that “casting will begin soon, and the field is wide open.”

“They have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they don’t belong,” Feige said in a press conference discussing the X-Men project. “That’s the universal story of mutants, and that is where we’re going.”

Marvel fans will have to wait until next summer to see how the Fantastic Four and the X-Men stack up against their favorite Avengers!
