Sarah Drew Shares These Traits With Her MISTLETOE MURDERS Character
By Movieguide® Contributor
Sarah Drew, the star of Hallmark’s MISTLETOE MURDERS, promises viewers “action and adventure and comedy and mystery” in the upcoming series.
“MISTLETOE MURDERS follows Emily Lane (Drew), the outwardly friendly, and optimistic shop owner of a charming year-round Christmas-themed store, Under the Mistletoe,” a description of the show reads. “However, her inner voice reveals a sardonic sense of humor, cunning intellect, and keen eye for details most people would miss…because Emily has a big secret.”
The synopsis continues, “Residing in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, Emily finds herself compelled to investigate not-so-quaint local murders. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective Sam Wilner (Mooney), a smart local cop – with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited – begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.”
While speaking to Movieguide® about her character, Drew said, “Emily Lane knows how to get the job done. She does not take no for an answer, and when she’s on the hunt, she will find what she’s looking for.”
“There’s so many things I love about Emily,” the actress continued. “I love that she’s a messy human who has a messy past [and] is doing her best to do good in the world and be a good person and ultimately find a home.”
Drew added that she and her character share some traits: “I relate to her because I am also very Type A — if I set my mind to something, it will be done. She’s very passionate, I’m very passionate. I love Christmas, too, and she’s pretty crazy for Christmas.”
The actress also teased a possible second season, revealing that MISTLETOE MURDERS ends “on a pretty epic cliffhanger.”
“We got action and adventure and comedy and mystery and intrigue and also romance!” Drew promised viewers of the upcoming six-episode series.
She also shared why she loves working with Hallmark; Drew has previously appeared in the channel’s CHRISTMAS IN VIENNA, ONE SUMMER, GUIDING EMILY and BRANCHING OUT.
“When you sit down and watch anything on Hallmark, you know that everything will be okay,” Drew explained. The other thing is that the characters across the board, the Hallmark brand, it’s about people who are good people, trying their best…they are doing their best to love people and love the world, and I think we just need more of that.”

“It keeps you coming back even though you get the satisfaction of solving a mystery every two episodes but there is the mystery of who Emily is, where she comes from, who she is running to,” she continued. “Is she good? Is she bad? Why does she have these skills?”
