ABC just revealed its mid-season lineup, and Tim Allen’s newest sitcom, SHIFTING GEARS, will premiere early next year.
Beginning Thursdays in January, the network will air Season 2 of Hulu’s ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING, as well as THE SECRET LIVES OF MORMON WIVES. The network will also air PERFECT WIFE: THE MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF SHERRI PAPINI.
The only new program to premiere is Allen’s SHIFTING GEARS.
“SHIFTING GEARS, which also stars Kat Dennings, will lead off the network’s Wednesday night starting Jan. 8” at 8 p.m. ET/PT, The Hollywood Reporter said.

“The sitcom centers around Matt (Allen), a widowed owner of a car restoration shop, and his attempts at reconnecting with his estranged daughter (Kat Dennings), who, along with her two teenage children, moves into Matt’s home,” Screen Rant said.
Allen can’t wait for you to watch it.
“Don’t tell anyone, really, this is between us. I’m very excited. ABC has come up with a new idea for a sitcom, and I think I’m in it,” he said in an Instagram video.
Fans commented on the post with excitement.
“Can’t wait 🙌🏿 been watching Tim Allen since home improvement days 😎” one user said.
Another person added, “Yay! I just finished binge watching Home Improvement and Last Man Standing. Every year I watch every Santa Claus movies and the Santa Clauses. Major fan of you since I was little, so excited ❤️😊”
SHIFTING GEARS also dropped its first image, showing Allen and Dennings smiling side-by-side.
“The sitcom appears to capture Allen’s comedic strengths while allowing Dennings, also known for her dry wit and charm, to add her own unique flair that she’s similarly brought to the MCU as Darcy Lewis,” Screen Rant speculated. “With a supporting cast that brings a range of comedic and dramatic experience, SHIFTING GEARS could strike a balance between the nostalgia of Allen’s older sitcom and a fresh appeal for new audiences.”
“The show’s got it all. It’s got fathers, it’s got daughters, it’s got beloved actors of many generations. Trust me, you’re gonna love it,” Dennings said.
