Jenny Marrs Prays for Upcoming Year: ‘I Can Live in the Shelter of the Most High’

By Movieguide® Staff

HGTV star Jenny Marrs recently took to social media to reflect on the upcoming year and pray.

“The last handful of years have felt like someone hit the fast-forward button on life,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “The world feels faster and louder than ever before. So many good, good things are happening and there is much joy in the chaos. Even still, on any given day, the onslaught of opinions and expectations and demands of my time are ceaseless. Often, I have to set down my phone, step outside alone and take a deep, cleansing breath.”

Marrs, the star of the renovation show FIXER TO FABULOUS, encouraged followers to set aside time to slow down, pray, and thank God for everyday blessings.

“Each year, I pray for a verse to lead me through the year. And then, out of that verse comes my word for the year. In the past, it’s been words like joy and light and quiet and shield,” she said. “This year, my verse is Psalm 91:1 – ‘Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty’ – and my word is REST.”

“The word itself feels like a deep inhale of grace, an exhale of obligations and a resetting of boundaries,” the post continued. “Likely, my world won’t slow down this year, the criticism won’t stop being flung my way, and the calendar won’t miraculously reorganize itself. Yet, even in the midst of it all – the beautiful and the messy – I can live in the shelter of the Most High (a title for God that effectively levels every threat) and find deep, soul-satisfying rest under His protective shadow.”

“Do you choose a word for the year? If so, I’d love to hear what it is,” she concluded.

Movieguide® previously reported on Jenny Marrs prayer from 2021:

Instead of announcing a resolution with the start of the new year, FIXER TO FABULOUS’ Jenny Marrs committed her 2021 to prayer.

“At the start of each year, rather than crafting New Year’s resolutions, which are based on my own will-power and grit, I spend time recording prayers for the coming year,” Marrs wrote on Instagram.

The HGTV star hosts alongside her husband, Dave, as they renovate homes in Arkansas. Jenny and Dave parent 1-year-old Luke, 5-year-old Charlotte, 7-year-old Sylvie, and twin boys Nathan and Ben, 9.

Family and faith are essential for the Marrses.

“Through the process, I often find myself drawn to a specific verse that I pray over my family throughout the year,” Marrs said. “My 2021 verse is recorded in two books, which feels significant in and of itself:

‘As for God, his way is perfect.

All the Lord’s promises prove true.

He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

{2 Samuel 22:31 & Psalm 18:30}’”

“This verse led to my word for the year: Shield,” Marrs added. “I love the imagery of God being our shield against the fiery arrows of the enemy. Against harsh words and lies and physical harm.”

Jenny and Dave, who were married 15 years ago, recently talked with Movieguide® about their faith, family, and shooting their show during the pandemic.
