Country Singer Taylor Sanders Finds Hope in God’s Promises After Loss

After experiencing a miscarriage and suffering from the death of her mother within a year, country singer Taylor Sanders explained how she has found hope through God’s promises.

“God puts us through certain situations in order to make us stronger,” Sanders told PEOPLE. “He says in the book of Peter ‘that only for a while will you suffer.’ So, I hold on to that.”

The singer’s last year and a half has taken her through a rollercoaster of emotions. In November 2022, she was preparing to shoot a music video for her debut single, “Firecracker,” when she received news that turned her world upside down.

“I was pregnant, and had just gotten a follow up ultrasound done,” Sanders said. “They said that they thought I was about eight weeks along. But then they said that the heartbeat had stopped.”

“I told myself I was going to grieve and cry the morning of the video shoot, but then I was going to get my makeup on and get ready to shoot this video,” she recalled. “It’s almost like I dissociated from myself and became the artist ‘Taylor Sanders’ versus the person ‘Taylor Sanders.’”

“I thought if I could hold it together emotionally and mentally, and I wasn’t really sick physically, then I felt like I was going to try and just be strong and do what I love to do,” she added. “We had put so much work into this and so much planning, so I decided to just push forward.”

Sanders was able to push through and successfully record her first music video — a major milestone for any artist. This wouldn’t be the only time the singer would experience joy and heartbreak in close proximity.

A few months later, Sanders was pregnant again, and in December 2023, she gave birth to her son, Gage Wolf. In this joy, however, she would be rocked by another challenge.

Only a few weeks after the birth of her son, Sanders’ mother passed away from complications during a procedure to combat her bone cancer.

“She had bone marrow cancer called myelofibrosis,” Sanders explained. “She had an allogeneic stem cell transplant and died from complications of grade four graft versus host disease and sepsis. She was 60 years old. She was the strongest person that I know. I’ve never seen anyone fight so hard.”

Though the sting of losing a baby and her mother in the span of a year still haunts Sanders, she looks to encourage others going through hard times with her new music. Clinging to God’s promise that suffering is temporary, she points herself and others to the days when pain will be a thing of the past.

“You sometimes have to climb mountains to find the light on the other side,” Sanders said. “It’s all about reaching the light on the other side of the pain. I am strong enough to keep moving on. And I know I’ll be a strong person for it.”

She hopes to raise her son to also look to God no matter the circumstances.

“No matter the talents God bestows upon him, my deepest wish is to inspire him to embrace life with unwavering purpose, dedication, and overflowing kindness. Above all, may he find strength and guidance in Jesus Christ,” she posted before his birth.

Sanders has found “immeasurable” rewards as she navigates the music industry as a new mom.

“My son has become my inspiration to dig deeper, dream bigger, and create music that reflects the depth of my love for him,” the singer told Atwood Magazine. “Through this journey, I have found a new source of strength within myself – a strength born out of the fierce love and determination that comes with being a mother.”
